My research

Diverse, but focused

In my research, I like to study a variety of topics, applying various research and evaluation methods, and producing various types of research contributions, summarized in the picture below.

Vision

In order to make sure that I keep a certain focus and that I build a specific expertise, they are all related to the common underlying theme of "Data-driven process improvement". Below is an overview of all the topics, described with the same template:
Improve <a certain process> based on <certain data> by developing <certain artefacts>

  • Process of Process Modeling
    • PPMChart visualization: Improve a PPM research process based on recorded modeling data by developing a visualization with tool support
      (Main publication: ISEB 13(1) - 2015 pdf)
    • SPMT theory: Improve a (process) modeling process based on cognitive test data by developing a theory
      (Main publication: ISF 17(6) - 2015 pdf)
    • SPMM method: Improve a (process) modeling process based on cognitive test data by developing a method with tool support
      (Main publication: DSS 100 - 2017 pdf)
  • Process Mining
    • Event log merging: Improve an inter-organizational data preparation process based on recorded process data by developing merging algorithms with tool support
      (Main publication: ESWA 41(16) - 2014 pdf)
    • Process suggestion: Improve a business process based on historical process data by developing suggestion algorithms with tool support
(to be submitted as an FWO project)
  • Differentiated Problem Solving
    • ECFT theory: Improve a solution design process based on cognitive profile data by developing a fundamental theory
      (submitted as FWO postdoc proposal)
    • SPSM method: Improve a solution design process based on cognitive profile data by developing fundamental theories, methods and tool support
(planned as a multi-domain inductive research project to be submitted to ERC)
